CRB Check Enhanced Dislcosure - £48
These are for posts involving greater contact with children or vulnerable
adults such as a social worker or doctor. Such work might involve regularly
caring for, training, supervising or being in sole charge of such people.
Enhanced Disclosures are also issued in respect of other positions such as
those seeking judicial appointments, and certain statutory licensing purposes.
All Enhanced Disclosures involve an extra level of checking with local police
force records in addition to checks with the Police National Computer (PNC)
and the government department lists held by the DfES and DH, where appropriate.
Local police information can be contained on the both copies of the Disclosure.
It is up to the Chief Constable of the police force to decide what, if any,
information is disclosed. An example of information contained on both Disclosures
could be details of a child protection case conference. Chief Constables can
decide that some information is relevant to the position but do not wish the
prospective employee to see sight of this information. This could be details
of suspected criminal activity were an arrest has not taken place but is anticipated.
If this type of local information is available it will be indicated on the
top of the Disclosure that further information is being sent by the police.
This information will be sent separately to the employer/volunteering organisation
only.

CRB Volunteers Check - £12
The CRB define a volunteer as "a person who is engaged in any activity which involves spending time, unpaid (except for travelling and other approved out-of-pocket expenses), doing something which aims to benefit someone (individuals or groups) other than, or, in addition to close relatives".
The CRB will perform regular audits on volunteer applications to ensure "free-of-charge" checks are not being abused. They are very strict on how this is interpreted and they specifically exclude family members of the business owner, foster parents or carers, and people on work placements working towards a qualification or skill to help their employment prospects.

POVA First checks - £16
The POVAFirst check is available to the many organisations and employers that require Disclosures but cannot wait for the Disclosure process to be finalized. Getting a satisfactory POVAFirst will mean the care worker can start work in a care home; for a domiciliary care agency; or as an adult placement carer before a full CRB check has been completed.
POVA checks can only be requested in conjunction with a completed CRB application form. The major benefit of this service is that the information is accessible within 72 hours of request.
